Minor Harriers

The Minor Harriers is a group run by Watford Harriers specifically aimed at providing a gentle introduction to athletics for the 7 – 12 age group. It is not restricted to gifted youngsters but is open to all regardless of ability. A special session is held for the Minors is held on Sunday mornings from 10.30hrs to 11.30am where the emphasis is on fun athletics though some join in with the junior middle distance squad which trains on Sunday morning. New members should arrive by 10.15hrs to fill in an information form.

There can often be 50 youngsters at a session. Parents are also encouraged to join in either participating in the session or helping out organising events. The emphasis fun athletics, increasing co-ordination and developing confidence. The youngsters have the opportunity to try out the main disciplines of running, throwing and jumping under expert guidance. Watford Harriers insists that all its sessions are co-ordinated by qualified UK:Athletics coaches and adhere to UK:Athletics guidelines for young athletes. For those who wish to continue their interest in athletics Watford Harriers have specialist coaches for most events and has junior and senior athletes competing at county and national level.

When the weather is poor use is made of the stand. The older athletes can also join in with the specialist coaching squads on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.00pm. 

Our programme of activities over the year is as follows;

January to March
General co-ordination and mobility. Cross-Country running and Fun Runs.
Sporthall Athletics which is held in a sportshall or large gymnasium is organised at local and regional level and is specifically aimed at the 8-13 age group.

April to September
Track and Field Athletics including multi event competitions specifically aimed at the Under 11 age group

October to December
General co-ordination and mobility. Cross-Country running and Fun Runs.

Membership Costs as at 1st March 2017

First three sessions free.

Annual subscription £20 Cost per session on Sundays £1.5 members £2.5 non-members
