WATFORD HARRIERS CLUB RECORDS BROKEN IN 2016
It’s been an outstanding year for record breaking at Watford Harriers.
Amongst the women 11 outdoor records were either broken or equalled.
Claire Bentley on her return to the club after an absence of 4 years swept the steeplechase board with senior records at all 3 distances: 1500m, 2000m and 3000m.
Georgia West in the pole vault had the distinction of setting new marks across two age groups; Under 17 and Under 20 Women.
At Under 15 Girls Taia Tunstall broke the 3kg hammer record whilst Tamyah Jones in the 100m equalled one of the oldest records on the club’s books – that of the late, great Janet Simpson (and she went on to be an Olympic medalist!) .
Pride of place though goes to Freya Witheat who at Under 13 Girls set an astonishing 4 new records: 200m, 70m hurdles, shot putt and javelin.
Earlier in the year, a further 9 indoor records were either broken or equalled.
Marie Wensel claimed the high jump record at Senior Women, Under 20 Women and Under 17 Women levels.
Georgia West presaged her outdoor achievement by taking the Under 20 and Under 17 Women’s pole vault record.
Molly Jarvis set a new mark at Under 17 Women for the 3kg shot.
At Under 15 Girls there was a new high jump record for Amelie Cooper whilst Tamyah Jones equalled the 60m record.
Finally, at Under 13 Girls young Sabrina Jansen set a new mark in the 800m.
New records for the men were a little harder to come by with 5 outdoor marks improved.
In the Senior Men Max Lowery added to his share of the 100m record set 2 years ago with a new 200m record.
All of the other 4 records were achieved by our outstanding crop of Under 15’s: Toby Makoyawo in the 100m, Connor Keogh at both the 1500m and 3000m and William Jarvis in the javelin.
Indoors there were 4 new records set in 2016.
At Under 17 Men Cameron George set a new mark in the 200m whilst Callum Woodage claimed his second indoor record in the pole vault to add to his Under 15 record from last year.
Two records were also set at Under 15 Boys – Luke Wilson in the 60m and Kai Alland in the shot.
Why not take a look at the complete club record list and identify one (or some) that you think you could improve upon in 2017. http://www.watfordharriers.org.uk/Rankingsindex.htm/
