About Us

 

Watford Harriers was founded in 1925 and over the years has produced several international athletes. Its aim is to provide facilities for all ages and all abilities in all disciplines of the sport and has nearly 200 active members ranging in age from 7 to 90. 


To this end the club is a member of several different leagues and together with its own promotions, county and regional events, can cater for all levels of ability. The club also works in partnership with the Leisure and Sports Department of Watford Council in promoting athletics in the Watford area.

The Track and Field base of the club is Woodside Stadium Garston and the Road Runners meet at Cassiobury Park.


Watford Harriers is a member of the following leagues:


Chiltern Cross Country League Division 1


Southern Athletics League Division 3


Eastern Young Athletes League 


The club promotions include the Watford Half Marathon in February, the Junior Challenge in March and the Watford Open Graded Meetings which are held twice a month from April to September. Three special minmeetings are held at the beginning, middle and end of the track season to give the Under 11s competition.


The club has qualified coaches in the following disciplines

Long Distance, Middle Distance, Sprints, Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault, Long Jump and Throws.

Training Times

Supervised training sessions are arranged as follows:

Open sessions - This means that it is open to anyone, although please check with the club prior to turning up to check for spaces and the sessions are going ahead.


· Multi Events – 6.30pm – 8.00pm Tuesday and Thursday and 10.15 - 11.30am Saturday mornings ( Mona and Alastair Mann)

· Middle Distance & Cross Country; 6.00pm - 7.00pm and 6.30pm – 8.00pm Tuesday and Thursday and Saturdays 10.30am - 11.30am on the grass (Lianne Langford) groups are dependent on ability and age.

· Sprints – (older group) – 6pm – 7.30pm Monday and Thursdays and some Saturday mornings (Imogen Walker)

· Hurdles – 11.30am – 12.45pm Saturday mornings (Alastair Mann)

· Sprints – 6.00pm – 7.30pm Monday and 5.30pm - 7pm Friday (Dominic Ashwell)

· Javelin – 6.30pm – 8.00pm Every other Thursday (Trevor Ratcliffe)

· Throws – 6.30pm - 8pm Friday evenings  (Neville Thompson) – due to start back May 25

· Pole Vault – 10.30am Saturday mornings (Imogen Walker)


Invitation Only - This means that you have to have prior agreement with the Coach to attend.

· Advanced Sprints – 6.45pm – 8.15pm Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday morning (Pete Griffiths)

· High Jump – 7pm – 8pm Thursday (Carl Reid)

· Long Jump/Triple Jump – For 16+ - 6pm – 7pm Tuesday (Cathy Walker)

· Long Jump – 10.30am – 12pm on Saturdays For EYAL competitors (Kio Bozorgi)
